Local  Yogurt Shop Named Regional Small Business of
the Year



Entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to excellence


The Small Business of the Year Award for 2012 has gone to The
Whistle Stop Yogurt Shop of Placerville. 
Each year, in honor of Small Business Week, the Sierra Economic
Development Corporation  (SEDCorp)
selects a small business for the award.  Placerville
 resident and business owners, John and
Cindy Mosbacher were selected for  the award
on April 4, 2012.. The Whistle Stop was one of three nominees considered for
the award.  Businesses were evaluated on
such criteria as economic impact, increase in sales, product line expansion,
penetration into new markets,  job
growth, upgrading management capabilities,  participation in trainings and workshops,
community involvement and dedication to the community that the business serves.


During Small Business Week, SEDCorp honors
small business owners and workers for their important role in leading the way
in an economy distinguished by low unemployment and sustained job
creation.   Brent Smith, SEDCorp CEO
states, “We applaud the men and women who own and operate small businesses and
spur economic growth. Through their entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to
excellence, they help ensure that America remains a place where
dreams are realized”.


John and Cindy are committed to the success
and growth of The Whistle Stop as well as The Coffee Depot which is also owned
by the Mosbacher’s, and is located next door to The Whistle Stop.  SEDCorp provided The Whistle Stop a business
loan under the USDA micro-loan program and they have also benefited from
SEDCorp’s technical assistance. John and Cindy are active in their community, sponsoring
El Dorado High School, Dry Diggins Dolphins, Mother Teresa Maternity Home,
Little League Field of Dreams and many others.
