Small Business of the Year Award

The Small Business of the Year Award for 2011 has gone to The Coffee Pot Ranch in Sheridan.  Each year, in honor of Small Business Week, the Sierra Economic Development Corporation  (SEDCorp) selects a small business for the award.  Sheridan resident and business owner, Bob Sorensen was presented with the award on May 2, 2011 at the Placer Grown annual meeting in Loomis Bob and Shirley, the owners of the The Coffee Pot Ranch  were one of several nominees considered for the award.  Businesses were evaluated on such criteria as economic impact, increase in sales, product line expansion, penetration into new markets,  job growth, upgrading management capabilities,  participation in trainings and workshops, community involvement and dedication to the community that the business serves.

 During Small Business Week, SEDCorp honors small business owners and workers for their important role in leading the way in an economy distinguished by low unemployment and sustained job creation.   Brent Smith, SEDCorp CEO states, “We applaud the men and women who own and operate small businesses and spur economic growth. Through their entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to excellence, they help ensure that America remains a place where dreams are realized” Bob and Shirley  are committed to the success and growth of their Ranch.  SEDCorp provided The Coffee Pot Ranch a business loan under the SBA micro-loan program, they also benefited from SEDCorp’s technical assistance and small business training workshops. The Coffee Pot Ranch is  very active in the surounding communities, selling meat at local Farmers Markets as well as hosting an annual BBQ at their Ranch for all their loyal customers.
